History;
Ucluelet (You-Clue-Let), named by the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Indians, means "safe harbour." Having been inhabited by the Nuu-chah-nulth people for thousands of years, the territory has a significant history. A rich natural eco system evolved as Vancouver Island became isolated from the mainland, retaining a great diversity of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish species. Located 62 miles west of Port Alberni and 26 miles South of Tofino, Ucluelet has long been known as the Gateway to the Pacific Rim.
The scenic seaside village of almost 2000 is embraced by mountains and dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean.

|
Storm Watching;
Pacific storms create ideal conditions for dramatic waves.
Enormous breakers pound the rocky coast, sometimes sending waves into the trees.
Spectacular storm watching can be had from the privacy of your own oceanfront suite at The He-Tin-Kis Lodge. You’ll be amazed by the intensity of the winter weather, and the magnitude of the waves. The lodge offers front row seats for storm watching.
